The story behind the cabins – and the people who built them
Hardanger Panorama Lodge is more than just a place to sleep – it’s a vision born out of love for nature, breathtaking views, and meaningful experiences. Your hosts, Arild and Claudia, built the cabins with their own hands and heartfelt dedication, and are now sharing their unique spot in Hardanger with guests from across the world.

From idea to reality – inspired by mountains, stars, and timber
Arild opened his eyes to treehouses after a trip with Martin Lid Trelast to treetop cabins in Eastern Norway. His idea and fascination for building a treehouse grew stronger after watching Nelson Treehouse on TV, two years after that visit. When he saw a photo on Instagram of a treehouse in Japan, everything fell into place, and before he knew it he was building the cabin on the farm they run at Ljono. The combination of the spectacular view from the cabin’s location and the experiences Ulvik offers—both in nature and through local products—shaped the project.
They named the first cabin “Orion” after the constellation in the sky. One evening in February, after being in the barn, Claudia asked Arild, “Which three stars are those?” and pointed upward. It was Orion; they looked at each other and agreed that this would be the cabin’s name. When darkness falls over Ulvik and the sky is clear, the stars can be seen distinctly. Cabin no. 2 was named Aquila, which is also a constellation and means “the eagle.”
